Thread to discuss Team Oil Rig trip on August 5th, 2012

What a great day out at the Eureka Oil Rig. Had a full boat, calm seas on the way out, sun by the second dive, and great visibility.

First dive for me was spent looking for rock fish. Plenty to find, just have to be patient. There were also plenty of sheepheads, and a couple of cabezon cruising about, as well as the other common fish. A technical difficulty with my speargun was quickly resolved, and bagged a couple of fish on this dive.

Dive two was all about the scallops, and there were plenty to be found. Got my limit, and cruised the superstructure, checking things out. Had some great interaction with a bull sea lion and his harem of about six ladies – cruising up to us, barking, checking things out, but never went for the scallops in my bag.

Quick safety stop, and back on the boat for the cruise back, under full sun. Quick detour to retrieve my hat overboard, and all the way into the harbor by 12:30. Another successful trip. If you haven’t been, you need to.
